John Baxter
Special Assistant to the Owner & President
Former RailCats Assistant General Manager John Baxter returned to the club as a special assistant to the
President and Owner in early 2010.
This
season is Baxter’s 31st in sports management, a career that includes
two stints as the President and General Manager of the Midwest League’s South
Bend Silverhawks (formerly the South Bend White Sox), the latest coming from
2007-09. Baxter first led the South Bend
franchise from 1987-97 and was named Sporting
News Minor League Baseball Class-A Executive of the Year in 1990. The following season, Baxter helped the Silverhawks win the prestigious Class-A Freitas Award for outstanding franchise operations.
Baxter began his career in baseball in 1980
with the Wichita Aeros and also spent six seasons in the front office of the
Oklahoma City 89ers (AAA) where he worked alongside current RailCats
President/General Manager Roger
Wexelberg. Baxter has also worked previously as a consultant for the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department and for the Elkhart Express of the International Basketball League.
Baxter and his wife, Rita, reside in South Bend and are the proud parents of a son, Sam, and daughter, Sara.
