Gary, Ind. – The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced today that Vice President & General Manager Bill Terlecky has resigned to accept a similar position with another baseball organization. The announcement of that organization will be announced next week. Roger Wexelberg, who served as the RailCats’ Vice President & General Manager from the club’s inception in 2001 through the 2006 season, will return to the team as President & General Manager. The changes are effective as of September 17th.
Terlecky has overseen the RailCats’ operation since November of 2006. His two seasons with the club have featured a league championship, the top two season attendance totals in franchise history, and a transfer of the ownership of the team.
“Roger built this franchise and I am happy to hand the reigns back over to him, knowing that we held things steady and solid as the team continued to grow during these two years,” said Terlecky.
Wexelberg returns to the team that he oversaw from its birth in 2001 as a Northern League expansion franchise and entry into the league as a traveling franchise in 2002 while U. S. Steel Yard was completed.
Wexelberg oversaw the inaugural opening year at the Steel Yard in 2003 and the club’s first league title in 2005 under manager Greg Tagert. The RailCats also hosted the Northern League All-Star Game that season as Wexelberg was named Northern League Executive of the Year.
The RailCats then finished as the league runners-up in 2006, Wexelberg’s most recent season with the club. After five seasons with the RailCats, Wexelberg left the organization after the 2006 season to take a Vice President position with North Coast Distributing, one of the premier beer distributors in the country.
“My passion is baseball and having an opportunity to return was too good to pass up,” said Wexelberg. “I look forward to working with Pat and Lindy Salvi and the RailCats’ staff as we continue to bring Northwest Indiana the best possible product both on and off the field. My time at North Coast was tremendous. Working for Bruce and Judy Leetz, I gained valuable experience on several different business levels, worked with great people, and saw firsthand why North Coast is so respected not only in Northwest Indiana but throughout the country.”
