GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats have added five games to a 2009 exhibition schedule that already includes two games at Midway Stadium against the American Association’s St. Paul Saints, the team announced today.

The RailCats will play two games each against the Schaumburg Flyers and the Frontier League’s Rockford RiverHawks after opening the exhibition season Tuesday, May 5 at Joliet against the JackHammers.  The RailCats will play a total of eight exhibition games this spring, and will announce one additional contest in the coming weeks.

The RailCats begin the season April 29 at U. S. Steel Yard with their annual open tryout before Spring Training begins in earnest May 1.  After opening the season May 5 at Joliet, the RailCats will travel to Schaumburg the next day, then board a bus for their series against the Saints.  The RailCats will tangle with St. Paul Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. and again the next morning at 10:30 a.m.

After an off day May 9 when the annual High School Challenge at the Steel Yard comes to an end, the RailCats will visit Rockford for a 3 p.m. game Sunday, May 10.  The next day, the RiverHawks and RailCats rematch at U. S. Steel Yard before the exhibition season draws to a close Wednesday, May 13 when the RailCats host Schaumburg.

The RailCats exhibition games are open to the public free of charge, and select games will also be available as a live broadcast at www.railcatsbaseball.com.
