WINNIPEG, MB — The Gary SouthShore RailCats (21-18) fell to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (19-19) on Wednesday evening by a score of 6-4. Reggie Wilson finished with two hits and was the only RailCat to reach base three times on the night while Alex Gunn pitched six innings for the second consecutive time in a no-decision.
For the second straight night, the Goldeyes took an early 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Wes Darvill hit an RBI single to center field to score David Bergin. Bergin reached base on a two-out double. Darvill later scored on a throwing error from James Alfonso. Jordan Ebert later drove in Alixon Suarez for the third run of the inning.
Winnipeg tied the game at four in the sixth with back-to-back one out doubles. Shawn Pleffner’s double just went past the outstretched glove of Colin Willis in right-center field before Bergin’s RBI double brought him around to score.
Gunn allowed four earned runs on eight hits in his team-high-tying 10th start. The southpaw walked one and struck out three.
Winnipeg’s Zach Nuding got the start for the Goldeyes. He, like Gunn, gave up four earned runs on eight hits. Nuding also walked one and struck out one over five innings. Mitchell Lambson (3-2) pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four over two innings of relief in the win. Ryan Chaffee (11) struck out all three batters in the ninth to increase his league-leading save total.
