GARY, Ind. — The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the acquiring of right-handed pitcher Aryton Costa from the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League for a player to be named later on Friday, July 21st. The RailCats also re-signed right-handed pitcher Joe Hauser before Friday’s game.
Costa returns to the RailCats after beginning his professional baseball career with the RailCats in 2016. Costa went 1-0 with a 2.36 ERA in six games (three starts) for Gary last season. The right-hander earned his first professional win in his last outing of the 2016 season, tossing 5.1 shutout innings against Joplin. Costa went 4-2 with a 5.81 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) for the Boomers before getting traded.
Hauser is back on Gary’s active roster for the third time this season after re-signing with the RailCats for the second time this season. In three relief outings for Gary, Hauser did not record a decision and finished with a 3.12 ERA. Hauser signed his first pro contract back on June 17th. Hauser allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings in his professional baseball debut on June 18th in Nebraska against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Gary continues their six-game homestand on Friday vs. Sioux City. Costa (0-0, 0.00) makes his season debut for Gary while the Explorers have yet to announce their starter for tonight’s series opener.
