GARY, Ind. — The GarySouthShore RailCats announced earlier today the trade of RHP Carlos Pinales to the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League for a player to be named later.
Pinales went 0-3 with a 9.48 ERA in five games (two starts) for Gary in 2016. Prior to signing with the RailCats, Pinales pitched for the Vallejo Admirals of the Pacific Association, finishing 1-1 with a save and a 2.11 ERA in nine games.
Pinales began his professional career in 2012 after signing with the Boston Red Sox in 2010 at the age of 18 out of Payo, D.R. The right-hander pitched in Boston’s minor league system for four seasons, reaching as high as Greensboro (Lo-A). Pinales’ best season came in 2014 with Lowell (Class-A Short Season) when the right-hander earned Mid-Season All-Star honors after tying for the New York Penn League-lead with 15 saves in 25 appearances.
The RailCats season opener is on Thursday, May 18 against the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. Gary’s home opener is on Friday, May 26 vs. the Texas Airhogs with first pitch at 7:10 p.m. Friday’s game vs. the Airhogs is a Fifth Third Bank Fireworks Friday and features a free magnet schedule giveaway.
