GARY, Ind—The Gary SouthShore RailCats only had two hits for the second straight game, but the RailCats were able to defeat the Texas AirHogs by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The RailCats scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning when Chase Harris was hit by a pitch from AirHogs starter Scott Firth with the bases loaded from and two down in the frame. Harris’ RBI scored Wilfredo Giminez from third base. Giminez reached base with an infield single to the shortstop Beamer Weems, which was the first hit of the ballgame.

That run overshadowed a terrific start for Firth (1-0, 0.75). He surrendered only one earned run, one hit, struck out nine and walked two in six innings of work.

Offensively, the Airhogs were led by a pair of hits by Alvaro Rondon.

The RailCats were able to stay in the game thanks to the efforts of Charle Rosario (1-0, 4.08). Charlie Rosario was able to pitch seven innings of scoreless baseball while giving up five hits, striking out two, and walking none.

In relief, recent signee Carlos Diaz pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning to record a hold in his RailCats and American Association debut.  Jorge DeLeon secured his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Gary continues their three-game homestand vs. Texas on Sunday evening with a 6:10 p.m. first pitch.  Alex Gunn (0-0, 3.72) makes his first home start of the year against the AirHogs’ Griffin Russell (0-1, 9.00) in the series finale. Sunday’s game features a pregame catch on the field and fireworks after the game.
